Information and Forms for Parents of AYSO 671 Players.
Below are forms or links that you may find helpful, whether you're new to AYSO soccer
or a seasoned pro.
New to Soccer or to EMSL?
There are two seasons: one in the fall and one in the spring.  Each season consists of eight  weeks of
games on Saturdays.  U8 and older also have an extra 2-3 weeks of midweek practices.  Spring season
typically runs from mid March though May and the fall season typically runs from mid August through October,
though season dates are adjusted to minimize conflict with school and national holidays.  Registration for the
Spring Season usually occurs in late fall (Oct./Nov./Dec), while registration for the fall season usually occurs
in the late spring (May/June). Visit the Registration Page for current registration information.  You can also call
or e-mail to be added to our mailing list for registration notification.

Games are played in Tijeras at Los Vecinos Community Center, in Edgewood at Edgewood Elementary, and
at Mountainview Elementary between Edgewood and Moriarty. Sometimes only two of these three locations
are used.

Divisions are grouped into two-year age groups, except for U5 and U6, which are each in their own division.
Birthdates and corresponding divisions can be found on the
Registration Page.

A current schedule can be found on the
Calendar Page.

In addition to recreational soccer, EMSL offers more competitive soccer programs to kids and families willing
to make more of a commitment to participate in more intense play. Visit the Programs Page for more
information.

AYSO's Six Philosophies
AYSO's philosophies are living tenets that separate it from other sports organizations. They are Everyone
Plays®, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship and Player
Development.

Everyone Plays®
Our program's goal is for kids to play soccer so we mandate that every player on every team must play at
least 50% of every game. It’s no fun to spend the game on the bench…and that’s no way to learn soccer!

Balanced Teams
Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible because it’s more fun and a better learning
experience when teams of similar ability play. It allows for each player to gain the experience of a wide variety
of teammates of different skill levels.

Open Registration
Our program is open to all children between 4 and 19 years of age who want to register and play soccer.
Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing. There are no elimination try-outs and nobody gets cut.

Positive Coaching
Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment for the players and leads to better-skilled and
better-motivated players. A coach can be one of the most influential people in a child’s life, so AYSO requires
they create a positive experience for every boy and girl.

Good Sportsmanship
We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and
our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.

Player Development
We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their
abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.

Coach Evaluation Form
These should be included in the coach's packet for distribution.  If for some reason that didn't happen, you
can download a form to
fill out and mail here.  Please, be specific and constructive in your praise and
criticism.  No rants, please.

Parent's Pledge
In order to provide a fun, enjoyable atmosphere for the everyone involved, we ask all parents to initial and sign
a
Kid's Zone Pledge.

Eating Tips
Proper eating habits before, during and after a soccer game:

Eat far enough ahead so food doesn't make you sick to your stomach during the soccer game.

Eat a healthy meal about 3 or 4 hours before your practice or match.

If you must snack, eat only a small quantity of a complex carbohydrates. Foods such as cereal, English
muffins, pasta, bagel or a piece of toast. Just make sure you don't eat more than a very light snack less than
an hour before the game!

Three hours before any sport activity, drink a couple of glasses of water (12 oz. sized glass).

Don't gulp! Sip the water slowly. One hour before game time, drink a little more water. During the match, drink
a little water every 15 minutes or so.

Drinking fluids is important!

After the game, drink more water.

Thirty minutes after any competition, eat a meal high in complex carbohydrates to help restore your body's
blood sugar (glycogen levels).

When are players covered by AYSO Insurance?
All players and volunteers are covered for a specific season, as soon as they complete the
player registration and/or volunteer application form and deliver that signed form to the
appropriate registration staff volunteer. This typically happens during registration day events,
but it can also take place via US mail. Please note that registration forms sent via mail are only
effective upon receipt, and that no player may play or practice until the region has received a
signed registration form.

If your child suffers an injury while practicing or playing in an AYSO-sanctioned event, contact
the Safety Director as soon as possible.

What are acceptable forms of proof-of-age for players new to the region?
Birth certificates, medical immunization records, passports, and other government issued
documents are accepted.
